Ekiti Democratic Movement

The mission

Ekiti Youth Democratic Movement, ( EKYODEM ) is a socio-political non-governmental organization. It is establshed to serve as the focal organization for basic and applied knowledge and as a catalyst for the susteinance of Democracy, good governance and alleviation of poverty in Ekiti State and Nigeria as whole.

In addition, EKYODEM is to encourage active youth participation in politics and shun all haphazard practices. The organization believes in democracy and in the presidential system of government as cherished in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.

We are ready to transform the country and make sure the youth become very industrious and incease per capital income of the country.

The youth are the future of the country and we believe that absolute power belongs to the people and that a truly democratic society should be founded on the principles of the people's priority and the pre-eminence of the people's interest. We also believe in he unity of the various people in this country working together as functinal equals.

It is  not the type of unity which sacrifices men to its end or which is an end in itself, but unity which serves as a tool for achieving the social and political welfare of the people.

Therefore, Ekiti Youth Democratic Movement has marked down strategies in mobilizing the youths to adequately and massivelly participate in politics and other forms of social works to accomplish the goals and objectives of the youths.

EKYODEM is ready to transform Nigerian youth to be industrious and self-reliant and thereby increase their per capital income.

The organization stresses National Stability and transformation of our great country. Unemployment, Povert and Political instability are social problems and should be adequately paid proper attention to. we have strategies to make our nation a better one.In Nigeria today unemployment of the youth is quite alarming and the fact remain that the previous government  failed to create an avenue for the youth to expand their intellectual and industrious scope. Infact, despite the major role the youth have to play in the politicaaal process in Nigeria.

Nontheless, kudos should be iven to the present government for its landable programmes which have in no small ways touched on the lives of the downster. Adon. There is no gain saying the fact that the youth have been made to feel the impact of good governance, however there is still room for improvement.

It is clear even to the most un informed person if the present government is given total support the dreams of the youth would become a reality. hence our support to the government of the day.

we sincerely pledge our loyalty and support to the present government for its effort in building the state of our dream and therefore all efforts should be made to encourage the govenment to run again in 2007 as to complete the good job its started in 2003.

Dr. Ayodele Fayose is a man of principle and a committed leader whom we have found the quality of a truely leader in him.We are again sanding it loudy that we are for him and we shall do all our possible best to give him the neccessary support now and the future

The organization has taken vital measures in reaching out to the people of Ekiti and Nigeria by organizing various seminars, workshops and rallies to sentizised the general public on sustainance of Democracy, Accountability, good governance and  integeration of the people. These measures will actually be a mechinery in discovering the great leaders that will transform the country to a greater height.

We believe that Nigeria has arrived at the cross roads in her history. No black country in modern times has commanded the huge economic opportunities now at er disposal. Resources are waiting to be tapped for the improvement of he quality of life of the people. But in the midst of  all these resources, the people are ground down by increasing poverty, increasing threat of stervation and increasing brutalizaion of the quality of life.

We are blesed with large expances of good fertile land, a congenial climate, a good level of rainfall over most of our territory, while the vast majority of our people live by tilling the soil. Yet we have been increasingly becoming unable to feed ourselves. The rate of food iportation rises from year to year, and some of our best minds are beginning to predict mass starvation. Industrial development is unsystematic, almost chaotic, and the nation continues to depend on importation for even the smallest and most basic necessities of modern life.

From the surface of our soil, we have mined huge amounts of wealth. But instead of being used to restructure our economy, this wealth has been spent mostly on good intentioned but poorly discussed programmes. The most basic infrastructural and necesay services such as roads, hospitals, electricity and so on are poorly managed as to constitute a major obstacle to the development of verile economy and happy nation.

We fearlessly declare that, after long and thouroughly thinking and searching, we have STRATEGIES that can and will surelly set Nigeria on the swift road to greatness, wealth and social justice which are our objectives.

Our Objectives

  • Discouraging Youth unemployment
  • Massive Youth participation in Politics
  • HIV/Aids Prevention
  • Combacting Youth Thugry (politics)
  • Childs' Rights protection
  • Sustainance of Democracy
  • Encouraging good Governance

EDUCATIONAL CENTRE FOR THE YOUTH

In which case, society that are sufficiently peopled by the educated enjoy profound peace, education, makes-people easy to lead, but impossible to drive, easy to govern but impossible to enslave.

No doubt, education is a man’s passport to greater height, a visa to brighter future and international world. It is a tool for total development and educated souls is an asset to her nation. Education remains the weapon for fighting ignorance, oppressism and poverty. Therefore, education of the youth should always be a top priority to all well meaningful leaders since the future of our nation’s lies on the hand of the youth.

It is in the light of the above assertion that we (EKYODEM), is now calling on our leaders to give priority to the educational sector so that the high level of illiteracy in our society will reduce if not eradicated in our society.

However, we want to strongly recognise the efforts of the present government in the area of education. It is in the recognition of the giant stride taken in the educational sector that we are calling on the government as to do more.

Here is the cost estimate of the proposed Educational centre of our dream.

Ekiti Youth Democratic Movement is ready to affliate and associate with any reputable organizations or group of individuals who have the interest of Ekiti State and Nigeria at heart. We are commited  to transform the state and the country to a better place by orientating the masses on the benefits of Nation building.

This educational centre will help the candidates sitting for WAEC, NECO, JAMB and other examinations to study hard and come out in flying colours. The centre will be a consolidation to what the present government is doing in elevating the standard of education in Ekiti State.

Once again, we have to thank our amiable, erudite and articulate governor

Dr. Ayodele Fayose for what God is using him to do in our young state, we pray that God will continue to strengthen you more to lead us to the promise land. We are indeed looking forward to seeing you responding positively to the education of our youth, this generation and the generation unborn will never forget your roles among the youth, Bravo! People’s governor

THE SPORT PROFILE

Participation in sport programmes by youth in other parts of the country is increasingly taking positive dimension, while the reverse in our darling state. The low level of participation in sports in our community emerges from the scepticism shown by people about the compatibility of sport and academic achievement couple with love of encouragement on the part of our sports administrators.

It should be noted however that all nations in the world are showing tremendous interest in sport, not for political reasons but for economic prosperity

Participation in sport has become an attraction for all classes of human beings, but competitive sport is for youth who have the opportunity to display their God-given potentials to advance their course either for social interaction or otherwise that sport represents an organised movement behaviour which contributes immensely to the physical mental, emotional and social well-being of an individual cannot be faulted, but the facts remain that despite the abundant of talents available in our society, nothing is done to bring these talents into focus of attention of the world

However, it should be known and sounded clearly that this state can produce great stars particular in the area of football and athletics if the youth are properly educated and encouraged.

There is no doubt in mind that great stars like Okocha, Kanu, Deji Aliu, Chioma Ajunwa to mention but few abound in our State. With the recent effort of the state government in developing our facility, there is hope and it is a joint responsibility of both the government and the good sport lovers of the state to come to our rescue by sponsoring a football competition among the youths, tagged “AYO FAYOSE FOOTBALL COMPETITION”.

HIV AIDS AWARENESS AND PREVENTION

The first official report on AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) appeared in June 1981. None of us involved in those early days of aids could have been imagined the scale of the epidemic that has unfolded. In 25 years it has become the greatest pandemic ever, and indications are that it will be continue to increase. It is estimated that over 40 million are infected with HIV (human immunodeficiency syndrome), and another 30 million have died from the effects of AIDS. The invasion of AIDS in Africa with an estimated 30.3 million infected, has become the epicentre of the pandemic.

A number of factors are involved in the spread of HIV. AIDS, in turn, has exacerbated other problems. The condition of that prevails in some lands in Nigeria and in other parts of Africa is gaining ground are often related to the following.

Morality. As sexual contact is the primary means of HIV infection, lack of clear moral standards evidently promotes the spread of the disease. Many feel, though, that it is not practical to advocate sexual abstinence for the unmarried. To simply warn the youths to abstain from sex will not work.  The youths are bombarded daily with sexual images of what they should look like and how they should behave. This analysis appears to be confirmed by the conduct of young people. For example, a survey Ekiti Youth Democratic Movement conducted in Ekiti State to be specified, our tertiary institutions indicated that virtually every students even the ones below the age of 20 had engaged in sexual intercourse.

Poverty. It is quite unfortunate that the people of Nigeria are living below the poverty line which creates a climate favourable to the spread of AIDS. What may be considered basics in developed countries are not available in most of our states and cities. Large communities have no electricity and no access to clean drinking water. In rural areas roads are inadequate or non-existent. Many residents suffer from malnutrition, and medical facilities are minimal. We have to say at this juncture that, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose has done well in making life more bearable to the common man. We are hoping that more should be done for the poor and in respect of this, we are pleading and encouraging him that he should consider the poor and extend his tenure with another four years (i.e. till 2011) so to accomplish all what he has started.

AIDS has a negative impact on business and industry. As more employees become infected, companies are feeling the effects of lost production. Some are considering ways to automate and mechanize certain operations in order to compensate.

A sad outcome of AIDS is the large number of children who become orphans when their parents succumb to the disease. In addition to losing parents and financial security, these children must endure the stigma attach to AIDS. Extended family members or communities are often too poor to give assistance or are not willing to do so. Many orphans drop out of school. Some turn prostitution and thus increase the spread of the disease.

Ignorance. A large number of those infected with HIV are unaware of it. Many do not want to be tested because of the stigma connected with the disease.

Ekiti State is a fountain of knowledge and we must work together as a team to prevent the extinction of the future generations. We are ready than before to assist the government in spreading the news that “AIDS is real”, and therefore we must be cautious than ever. Seminars and rallies will be organised in our various institutions across the state. We are making moves to penetrate the remote areas in the state so that the youth like us will understand us better and know the merit of AIDS prevention.

THE GOVERNOR OF GOVERNORS

There is no scintilla of doubt that Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose is an achiever he has put wrong the cynics and the pessimists through his great and monumental programmes.

  • Fayose has broken the gate of brass. Ayodele has closed the mouths of the roaring lions.
  • The seemingly impossible dualisation of Ado township road has become a reality
  • The inhabitable swampy area of Ajilosun has dramatically turned to best market arena of our time.
  • The death traps of Ekiti roads are gleaming with asphalt.
  • The teachers’ Governor has disproved the belief that teachers’ rewards are in heaven.
  • The generality of workers now smile home on 20th of every month.
  • The pendulum of fortune has swing to the drivers.
  • Artisans are financially empowered to live a life of ease.
  • Joblessness has become a thing of the past.
  • The ‘ore mekunu’ has laid a foundation no man can surpass.

  • Ayo Fayose deserves a second term:

i. To turn Ekiti to a state of our dream.

i.                    To redeem us from regional politics

ii.                 To liberate us from the gluttonous politicians.

iii.               To take Ekiti to the mainstream of Nigerian politics

iv.               To get Ekiti Industrialised to meet the challenges of employment.

v.                  To rid our young state of greed, corruption and oppression.

vi.               To lay the foundation of an egalitarian society where justice and fair play prevail.
